How's the turned twill going for you?

I enjoyed the turned twill a lot. Right now I’m doing an undulating twill that is a bit boring, though. Can’t wait to get it off and do something more fun.
I made "noren" -in Japanese based on Lesson 7 episode 1. I could not find direct English translation, and may be close to a small curtain or a shop curtain.

Thank you, Nato for commenting. I used cotton yarn dyed with Japanese Indigo. I am not the expert of it, but I was told that Japanese indigo is fermented differently.
Oh wow. I love the blues indigo makes. Yes, many ways to ferment to extract the indigo pigment from the plant. Once you make a vat, it can last a long time. It is like a pet;)

I am reviewing the towels in Season 7 Episode 1. When creating the hem for the turned twill, do you weave that area in Plain Weave or just set aside
1 1/2 or more inches, weaving in the pattern, for the hem?
I don't want that hem area to flare out.
Hi Joy, Jane wove those hems in Turned Twill. She says that on page 3 of the pattern ;-)
My bad. I went over that area tonite and changed the length for the hem from 2 1/2" to 1 1/2" and never read any further.

I think it was in Episode 1 that Jane mentioned Barbara Mitchell's "Shifting Shadows" scarf in the May/June Handwoven magazine. I just received my copy and looked up the article. I understand everything in the article except for the WARP COLOUR ORDER. Can you take the time to explain this in english to me? The number of ends on the left has me baffled and I find, as you read from right to left for truffles, the total doesn't come to 62.

I agree, the warp color order in the magazine isn't adding up. I ended up going to handwovenmagazine.com. I assume you are a subscriber, and then clicked on' library'. If you are an all access member, you can search for shifting Shadows and download the WIF file to your computer. It looks completely different than the color order given in the magazine, however the thread count does add up to 255, as stated in the pattern. I would use that maybe, to calculate the warp color order.
100,000 thank yous for the info. Hopefully the library will also tell me which colour goes after which colour in the colour order. I find the diagram on page 55 is too hard for my little pea brain to figure out.
I reduced the width of the Season 7 Episode 4 Halvdrall to weave a table runner for my dining table. Put on a quick 3 yard warp and used the towel #1 for the pattern. I found the Halvdrall very easy to warp and weave. While weaving, it was very easy to read the cloth and know where I was in the weft pick order. The runner also washed and dried very well with minimal wrinkling and a quick steam press was all that was needed. I will def be weaving this one for future projects.

Sniff, I could cry. I am also warping for Halfdrall. And now, as I have come to the last part of 38 Cayenne I realized my stupid mistake. Don't ask why but I warped with 3 in my hand (2 Cayenne and 1 creme ) for the whole part 😆. Is there a chance to separate the whole part back to 38 cayenne and 19 cream to get the desidered stripes while threading the heddles or will this cause too much tension problems?
Catherine, were you able to save your warp?
Other than starting over, I don't see how this can be separated...sigh
Cheryl, thanks for asking! After the first disappointment I realized it was not as bad.
It is on the loom now and I will play with with colour and weave in twill and basketweave. If I had planned this I would have made the warp a little bit more diversified but it will be okay.
And for halfdrall I will have to find an other colour combination as I made this warp for eight towels.

Jane! Jane! Jane! I just wanted to say I was mesmerised by the episode on log cabin and overshot. Following along with your design process from start to finish was pure gold. I loved hearing about how each part of the sampler scarves came to be and I can’t wait to put what I have learned from this episode into practice. I have a 10 yard turned taquete warp on my David right now, but overshot + colour & weave will be up next. Thanks for an amazing lesson.
