I have a Schacht Baby Wolf loom and just made a 2/2 twill scarf in 8/2 tencel. I did some practice weaving at the start and could not get a balanced twill (24 EPI and 24 PPI). I ended up beating by just bringing the reed to the fell very gently and changing feet before pushing the beater back (as Jane recommends) and letting it be whatever it was going to be, but the PPI ended up way over 24 anyway. It still came out nice…thankfully!
Going forward, I really want to figure out how to get balance on a twill. I was able to do it in plain weave for previous lessons, but the twill weave just packs in. Is a tight warp better for twill? I need tips on how to obtain this balance! Why is it such a struggle?
Just wondering if you did a ruler wrap, with the Tencel you used, to get your sett. If you got the “hand” you wanted in your scarf, then you are doing something right ;-) Here’s a thread in our original Forum - before School of Weaving
switched to its current format, that might help. https://janestaffordtextiles.com/forums/topic/advice-for-tencel/
