Hi,, I' m Len Klein and new to the school. I have been weaving for 20 years, but I am now retired and want to learn about weaving not just following a pattern.
I was watching the first vid and it showed the 1,2,3,4;1,2,3,4 threading and then the 1,3 - 2,4 treadling. I thought if you stepped on the 1,3 treadle that lifted those shafts and they would not be covered, the 2,4 shafts would be. As I listened it seemed to imply the opposite. Where am I wrong??
Appreciate any help. Thanks
I have a Baby Wolf and am confused
Hi Len, welcome to the School of Weaving. Jane describes how her Wolf Pup works in Season 1 .8.3. Your loom operates the same way - just a bit bigger. Different looms work different ways - some are rising sheds and others are sinking shed looms. The bottom line is that it doesn't really matter - you just have to understand how your loom works. Here's an article from our Knowledge Base that explains how different looms operate. That being said - if the pattern is written for a rising shed loom and you are weaving on a rising shed loom - the pattern will be visible on the top of the cloth. If you are weaving on a sinking shed loom - the other side of the pattern will be on top. I weave on a sinking shed loom and the majority of the time it doesn't matter which side is up - especially with the 2/2 Twill you are planning to weave. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the quick response. I have been jumping around in Seasons and Episodes so I had missed that. I also later saw here some of the patterns were labled for rising or sinking shed looms, and had not seen that when I wrote my question. I will try to research better before I ask questions in the future.
I am learning a great deal by watching the vids. So I am having a great time. Again thank you for your reply.
