In the point twill gamp and baby blankets, when I got to the last blanket, I started out by loosely allowing my hand to wander across my trackpad in the treadling of the draft to see what popped up. This led to some forms that I really liked. However, it also produced some long floats. I subsequently read in several places that floats of more than 3 threads in a baby blanket were not the safest for little fingers. Anyone care to offer opinions on this?
Hi Sandra,
I asked this question on S4 E5 pre-game show and tell, but thought I’d ask on this thread as well. I am getting ready to cut off my Point Twill Gamp and weave a baby blankie and want to make sure I’m understanding what Jane did to weave her example she shares at about 20”. It looks like she cut it off, then re-sleyed it in a division of 3 using the small point at the sides and the extended point in the center, then treadled patterns taken from playing at the loom on the Gamp? Let me know if I’m missing the boat. Thank you!
Hi Mary,
I gave you one suggestion in answer to your question under the opening video of S4-Episode 4. See if that helps you, or - if not - let us know.
Yes, thank you Sandra!
Hi Sandra,
I’m at my loom trying to re-sley the Gamp to make a blanket as Jane shows in her example at about the 20” mark on S.4.5.1. It looks like she removed some of the plum dividers to re-sley the baby blanket. I kept two of these plum dividers to separate the border patterns and have a central larger area. My question is how to manipulate the warp in the lease sticks to re-thread? As it is, the Gamp was not symmetrical at the sides because they had different threadings. I would have to re-arrange some Nile ends with Plum ends and I think that would cause a twist in the back. It is so much more than what we did in S2 color and weave Gamp, where we lifted colors over each other to put them where we wanted them. I’ve looked at other students blankets from this warp and it appears they kept the dividers in. I’m just curious to know how Jane changed her warp so much? I hope I’m explaining my question well enough. Thank you!
