In the point twill gamp and baby blankets, when I got to the last blanket, I started out by loosely allowing my hand to wander across my trackpad in the treadling of the draft to see what popped up. This led to some forms that I really liked. However, it also produced some long floats. I subsequently read in several places that floats of more than 3 threads in a baby blanket were not the safest for little fingers. Anyone care to offer opinions on this?

For this one, you follow Jane’s diagrams on pages 3 & 4. You weave the first sample TAW (treadling the threading pattern) and for the rest, change the directions on your twill as Jane has drawn in her direction. It would probably help if you got out your draft paper and drew down a couple of the diagrams so you could see and understand it before you sit at the loom. Or, you could review the episode one more time. Once you “get” it, you’ll be on your way with no looking back ;-)

I am back, looking at these again. I realize photos don't show the colors very well, but (if I have the colors right) the seaton on the navy looks light gray and the navy looks charcoal!

Hi Gillian, just consulted my notes. Warp was Nile and Plum. In the photo with the set of 4 the weft was…
1: Plum, Marine, and Teal
2: purple hem, then Plum Seaton and Natural
3: Plum, Peacock, Marine
4: Marine, Teal, Mauve Pâle, Denim
Teal and Seaton are very close in colour, and when they cross Plum they definitely read gray. I think they appear lighter gray when the adjacent ground is darker, and darker gray when the adjacent ground is lighter.
That Marine is a bit of a dark horse on this warp. In some lights it reads navy, others charcoal to black.

I didn’t try this, but as I was holding up yarn samples to check against my notes, I compared Charcoal to the pieces I wove with Marine. The Charcoal reads like a muted dark eggplant. I think it would have paired beautifully with Plum and Nile. So many things to try.
