Hi! I just took this one off my loom. I think I got five pieces from it. I snapped a total of 10 warp ends in the process but I have some ideas on how to improve on this next time. I'm on a big Glimakra and I just had a whale of a time. I had no idea plain weave and 8/2 cotton could be so complex and communicative.
When I put everything into a nice warm soak just now I heard a part of me murmur: "This is even better than Shrinky Dinks." Which, perhaps, as people my age might know, is pretty darn cool. :)
My typewriter got a rug:
This was my favorite sample. I think it has a typographic quality too. The repetitive sequences almost look like writing to me.
Thanks so much for this wonderful guild!
On the subject of typography and weaving, I am thinking that typographic scales — harmonic intervals in type size which create layouts pleasing to the eye — could be used in our efforts with division of space and graphic creation. This site has eight scales that can be used to generate number sequences similar to Fibonacci's:
I think these are based on music.
Interesting!!! Thanks for sharing, Jennifer.
