Just finished watching season 1. I already knew how to warp a loom but I learned so much. Jane's instructions were amazing and I was able to warp my loom much quicker after watching her process. My question is...I have a new Leclerc Artisat loom. Not thrilled with it so far, but we're still getting to know each other. How do I know which position to use when attaching the cords to the treadles, meaning where do I place the loop of the cord on the metal treadle rod. There are three eye hooks on each treadle and I'm not sure exactly where to attach the cord, eg. between the 1st and 2nd eye hooks, 2nd and 3rd, etc. My shafts don't lift evenly when I press the treadles. I have treadle 1 attached to shafts 1 and 3, and treadle 6 attached to shafts 2 and 4 for plain weave..

The cords should be coming down as straight as possible. If you aren’t getting a clean shed I would contact Leclerc. They will be able to help you fine tune it. I have never worked on an Artisat. Hope this helps,

Thx so much for your quick reply. I will check the positions of my treadle cords. I have had problems with split sheds from the beginning (I have done 3-4 projects on this loom). I will see what happens with my latest warp after following your excellent warping instructions. I have contacted Leclerc and was told to contact Camilla Valley where I purchased the loom. I will do that after I see what happens with this warp!

My first loom was a vintage, 1974, 22" LeClerc Artisat, purchased in 1997 from an elderly woman who had moved into a nursing home. I was a newbie, new to weaving (self taught) and the workings of a floor loom, and so was perplexed as to why each treadle cord was attached to each of the 6 treadles through different eye hooks. The only thing I noticed was some treadles sitting higher or lower than others. Unable to find an answer in any of my weaving books I took the plunge and experimented threading the loops through different eye hooks until all treadles sat evenly, all sheds lifting evenly. While I've since moved on to a Schact Baby Wolf, after all these years (and many successful projects!) I still enjoy weaving on my ancient Artisat! Give her a chance! ; ) And oh yes, Camilla Valley is very helpful, happy to answer questions and address concerns. Hope they were of help! Good luck!

The treadle cords should make as straight a line as possible when going from the lam to the treadle. The treadles attached to the shafts closest to the weaver should use the eye hooks closest to the weaver. The furthest away shafts should be attached to the eye hooks furthest away from the weaver.
