Hi,
I'm sampling a double width blanket as in season 8 episode 7. I'm having trouble creating a seamless appearance between the top and bottom layer. It looks like two separate pieces of fabric that were sewn together poorly. I am diving the dip, jumping the bump. My top and bottom wefts are different colors. The twill diagonal does not look good on either side of the intersection. It looks like I may be pulling too tightly to minimize the loop. I've attached a photo of the sample off the loom, see link below. The sample has been washed and dried.
Thanks in advance for your advise.
Judy
Hello Judy- I am nowhere near trying double weaving yet myself, but I seem to remember Jane mentioning something about using one or two 'temporary' warp threads at the point where the upper and lower layers join, so that when the temporary thread(s) are removed after the piece is taken off the loom, the join line has room to sort of settle out and lie flat. From your photo, it looks as if the top and bottom layers are being pulled too tightly together and the change in warp colour just at that spot, combined with the twill structure using very dark and light threads probably draws even more attention to this? Anyway, that may all be utterly irrelevant, but thought it worth mentioning. Hopefully someone who really knows what they are talking about will give you better advice soon!
