Jane, I just watched your slide show on warping with two warps. Thank you! I am finally getting ready to warp my window shade that I created using your cramming and denting lesson. I made a draft in Fiberworks which allowed me to use the thread thickness feature to visualize the cramming and open sections (attached). I had to use relative values to create thread thickness (also shown in attached table). My question now is how do I lay out the warps in my raddle (Louet Spring II). Should I just do it section by section and estimate the no of threads per inch for that section ?
crammed section 20epi open section 10 epi very open section 7 epi. I will use a 10 dent reed. Diane

Hi Diane,
Yes, you should estimate section by section for the raddle. You have your first 40 crammed threads at 20 ends per inch, in the raddle do 4 per dent for all the crammed parts (4 per dent for the 5 dents per inch on the louet raddle).
Your open section at 30 ends and 10 ends per inch you can put 2 threads per dent and so on.
Looking at your very open ends per inch at 6.67, have you considered a rounded number, possibly 8 per inch? That might work best for you. Just a thought for when you are weaving this section and also for sleying your reed.
Do you have a copy of the Reed Substitution Chart handy? You can follow the reed #5 for the raddle. If you run into an uneven number of threads for the 5 dents, you can play with those sections as close counts :)
