Hi,
I'm so thankful for all the inspiration I get from all your lovely sessions.
I'm wondering if you could help me with a question. I've done some towels and tablecloths using both Branson lace and Huck lace. My question is if it's only me getting different width in the section of the lace and the section of the tabby? The tabby parts are wider than the parts with the lace pattern. Not sure how to upload a photo but if I could I can show you what I mean.
Thanks again!
All the best,
Moa (from Sweden)
Different width lace and tabby
Hi Moa,
I'm no expert and I seem to forget things more and more.
However, I recall when combining twill and pw, that pw takes up more space than twill because of the interlacement. A pw hem will flare out and Jane discusses different ways to combat it.
As for lace, I can not recall having to do that in the lace exercises.
Could you be drawing in too much on your weft yarn on the lace sections? The lace might looks a little loose or look like nothing until you wet finish it.
You could rewatch season 5.3.2 around the 50:05 mark. She talks about sett and lace.
Look up: Colour in Lace Weaving in the knowledge section. Those examples are a mix of lace and pw and the edges aren't drawn in or flaring out.
I hope this helped and that more weavers will chime in. Those of us in the states are probably recovering from turkey and family.
Hi Nato,
Thank you for your reponse!
You are right, I also remember Jane sharing this issue with PW and twill. But, as you also state, I can't see her doing anything different when weaving the lace patterns and PW.
Unfortunately I'm experiencing this issue when weaving lace and it's driving me nuts :-)
I hope you have had a nice Thanksgiving.
All the best,
Moa
