My notes say to change tie- up for this, so I went to page 6 and changed to the weft float tie up (rising shed for my jack loom) but when I weave it doesn't look like the sample. I've tried doing it without changing the tie- up and it's not right either . I know it will change after I wash but I'm not sure it's right.
Also as a suggestion, it would be good to have a timeline to follow along with the videos so you can look up the specific part of the sample you are working on.
Sample #12 Canvas Weave
Re-reading my post, perhaps I should have been more specific. I switched from the A 4/3 and B 1/2 to A 4 and B 2.
The tie-ups outlined in the pattern draft are all for a rising shed loom. There should be no need for you to change the tie-up. When you need to change the tie-ups, if you are working on a sinking shed loom, remember to tie up the empty boxes to see the pattern on top as you weave. FYI - for a sinking shed loom - A would be 1/2 and B would be 4/3. Here's an article from the Knowledge Base that might help you understand tie-ups a bit better - I often find that reading something helps me understand what I'm doing. https://janestaffordtextiles.com/knowledge-base/rising-shed-sinking-shed-which-tie-up-do-i-use/
Also, if you are looking to find the location of a sample in one of the episodes - look under Resources at the top of every page on the School of Weaving site and click on Weaving - you will find Indexes listed there. https://help.schoolofweaving.tv/category/90-weaving
I thought I needed to change tie ups because on page 9 of the handout, right above Sample #11, it says "Now I'm using THE HUCK TIE-UPS" What does that mean? Page 6 lists tie-ups for Lace, Warp Floats and Weft Floats so I thought I needed to change. And in the video she goes over the Mother of all Tie-ups which I can't do as I only have 6 treadles.
Jane explains that on page 8 in the item called Canvas ala Huck - you treadle tabby, float, tabby, float, tabby - the odd number pick sequence needed to create Huck Lace.
I do appreciate your assistance and I'm sorry to be so dense but I'm still confused about what she means at the bottom of page 9, right before Sample #11: "Now I'm using THE HUCK TIE-UPS". I rewatched the video and at 31.36 she talks about changing the tie-up. Are these the tie ups described on page 6? If so I tried that and maybe mine will look like hers after I wash it. Also, in terms of index, I meant it would be great if there were a time index of each sample in videos so you can easily find a specific sample she is weaving.
Hi There,
In the mother of all tie-ups there are warp floats and weft float tie-ups...they are the Huck tie-ups. If you only have 6 treadles you can tie-up your 2 tabbies and then do a skeleton tie-up for the other 4 treadles meaning sometimes you will have to be stepping on 2 treadles at a time. A Huck sequence also have 5 picks not 4 like in pure canvas weave. In canvas you treadled tabby, float, float, tabby. In Huck you treadle tabby, float, tabby, float, tabby. Let me know if this helps :)
The warp floats and weft floats are the treadlings in the bottom 2/3rds of the big tie-up.
