5.7 towels - Substituting 8/2 cotton for linen

I have just started the Bronson Lace towels using 8/2 cotton instead of the linen. I just have the hem of the first towel started and am worried that it looks too loose at 16 EPI. Is it because I substituted the cotton? Should I go back to the usual 18 EPI?
(I'd love to try linen, but can't justify it right now.)

You are comparing apples and apples. The Bronson Lace towels in Season 5: Episode 7 calls for organic 8/2 cotton and it weaves up the same way as the regular 8/2 cotton. Don't forget they will draw in when finished. If you want to make sure of the sett - this could be a learning moment for you. Weave one at 16 ppi as Jane recommends and then cut it off and re-dent your reed for 18 ppi and compare them both after they are finished.

So sorry, I was looking at the yarn supply list for season 5 and 6, trying to get together an order for supplies that qualifies for free shipping. The yarn list calls for Venne organic cottolin, but now I see that the PDF says 8/2 cotton, so, yes apples and apples.
I fell behind this year due to some orthopedic issues and am trying to catch up. I'm thrilled that season 6 is covering blocks and profiles.The guild has been my weaving buddy and teacher here in Southern California where nobody does this sort of thing. It's saved my sanity at times during pandemic and political shenanigans. Thank you all.
