Just got my 2/40 linen warp on my loom (Jack Loom) and started weaving my sample. I already have tension issues and I am not 1/2 inch into the weaving, plus already have 3 broken threads. I am really discouraged about this. Taking a break to recover about this and try to figure out what to do. Any thoughts?
Broken linen threads
Hello Linda- I haven't had the courage to try weaving with linen myself yet, so I will be interested to read any advice you may receive! Meanwhile, all I can say is that probably every single weaver who uses this forum can sympathise with you....I have certainly felt pretty fed up at times when things seem to go wrong for no obvious reason. Hope you get some good advice soon!
Hi Linda,
So sorry to hear you are having issues! Where are your broken threads happening?
All over really. I had one on selvage, one in crammed area and one in open. After sleeping on it, I started again this morning. I inserted another rod and put some weights in it for the open and very open sections, and I was very very gentle with my beating. Results after one hour of weaving, is only one broken end and I am almost done with the sample Phew! I am also advancing every 2 inches or so. Conclusion, I was beating way too hard
So glad it's working out! Linen is one of my faves!
Hi Linda, I have never worked with linen before, but I have often read that higher humidity is beneficial. I don't know what climate zone you live in, but here the humidity in the house is very low during the heating season. Perhaps a humidifier next to the loom would help even further?
