I’m trying to wrap my head around designing a plaid blanket. I’ve done the double weave lesson and understand how to weave it, but I want to make a blanket thé is about 32 inches wide on the loom and 64 ish unfolded. I was watching Jane again with the design where she does the 5”, 5”, 1”, 5” sections but I want the center of the blanket to be one color. I was thinking of doing 6”,1 , 6”1”, 6”, 1”, 6”, 1”, 6” blocks fir the plaid. This would mean that the edge where the fold is would be 3” on the top and 3” on the bottom. Would this work out? Or not come out even in the threading? And does it make any sense at all the way I’ve described it? 🤪
Did you get your answer? Yes I think it would work out. But use the system of pulling a thread when done, that Jane shows. I wove a center strip on my wool and mohair blanket. The only issue I found with the center fold was that the mohair weft fibers wrapped into more of a thicken yarn as it went around the fold and formed a noticeable mark at the fold. I think I put that into my thread, about that project.
the pulled thread at the fold was open but he mohair wrapped around the fold leaving a fussy tail tale sign:

But the whole project went well over all. I plan to do a 3rd blanket but straight wool. this blanket was a wedding gift for my son and daughter in law. My son found it a little itchy at the face. Poor kid used it to cover up while they went on their short honey moon and he was sick with COVID. Several wedding guest got it late October early Nov. I did not fortunately. The center strip is centered on the blanket.

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for replying. I’m still waiting for your images to come up here on my iPad, but I appreciate your help.
After ruminating on my blanket plan for a long time, I decided to do it a little different and I think it will be ok, but there’s one problem that might be an issue. I’ll know when I start weaving and explain it later. I’m still sleying the 528 (😳) threads.
I’m glad you didn’t get Covid. We have—so far—avoided getting it, but then we do live on an island of only about 4,000 and our county in WA is the best at low cases, so there’s that factor. 😉
Looks BEAUTIFUL!
