I’m enjoying and learning from this series so much. But this is the first time I want to pull out my hair. I cannot get a clean shed with the supp warps. My threading is fine. 121212..33. 121212…44 etc. my sleying is killing me. How do you sley the first (of the 2 supp threads) 3 heddle or 4 heddle without twisting the threads? If my 3 or 4 shaft heddle is after the 1,2 run, then I have to cross over threads 15 and 16 to sley into dent for thread 13 and 14. So I consistently get crossed threads. I know others faced the same situation but I never saw a solution. I’ve tried slipping the thread under 15 and 16. And over 15 and 16. Either way, I get either shaft 3 twisted with its companion thread or shaft 4 twisted with its companion thread. When sleying, What do I do when I get to thread 13 and 14 and and shaft 3 or 4. I have pics if necessary. Help!

Sorry about the triple post. The website said that there was a problem loading the comment and to try again. (Which obviously I did multiple times) ;)
I am having the same issue. Did you find a solution? I am wondering if I need to change my threading to 121212....123123, just curious if there is another solution before I start rethreading.
Hi Janine, did you thread 16 threads of dark purple cotton and then 2 silk and repeat that complete pattern in purple 4 times in row? When it comes to denting - when you get to the silk - they each get to share a dent with 2 cottons, as Jane shows in her graphic. It’s a fun sample to weave and - as a friend is always telling me - “suspend disbelief”, you’ll be fine.
Yes, that is what I did but when I step on the treadles to put in my header I am not getting a clean shed. Perhaps it's because I crossed one of the silks over a dent to the right. Which seemed to be the instructions in the PDF. Basically I threaded the first supplementary with threads 13 & 14 and the second one with threads 15 & 16. This is creating a cross at the reed and I am not getting a clean shed. I am going to try denting the supplementary with threads 15 &16 from the first repeat and threads 1 &2 of the second repeat.
If I recall, I dented one silk with the last 2 dark purple and the second silk with the first 2 Raspberry. - you should be fine! Keep us posted!
Thanks Sandra, I have done that now and am getting a clean shed.
Yay! Thanks for letting us know 😁
Hi team,
I'm salivating at the idea of getting to the weaving because I just love the look of this project. My issue is the treadle tie up. I have a CB Fanny with 6 treadles, here is what I believe I need to get
for the plain weave or TT 1/2 against 2/4
For AA I need 2/4 against 1/4, and I already have the 2/4 as part of the TT
For BB I have 2/3 against 1/3, and I already have the 1/3 as part of the TT
For the UP I have 2 and 1
So now my 6 treadles are used up and I don't have space for the DOWN with 234 against 124.
Am I misunderstanding how to convert the Rising shed tie up diagram to my CounterBalance loom?
TIA for your advice.
Leslie
You are not misunderstanding your challenge, Leslie. The only way I can see that you could do this with 6 treadles would be to use a direct tie-up. However, it would be challenging when you were wanting your supplementary warps in the Down position - you would have to be covering 3 treadles with your feet. Do you have access to a table loom? I often weave on mine and I find that I can easily change the toggles to get the shafts working the way I want for a structure. It's slower but you get there ;-)
Tricky! I had to do direct tie up for the warp faced project so I'm familiar with it. But a three footed stomp! This could get interesting.
I guess it's worth trying but I envision just reducing my options and trying a few different samples. I'll add 'supplementary warp' to the rationale for purchasing a loom with more shafts:)
Thanks...Leslie
I threaded this on 6 shafts with PW on 1,2,3,4 so that I didn't have to add extra heddles to shafts 1 & 2. And I tied up my 10 treadles accordingly ,marking with the stars and squares, etc. What I can't seem to figure out is when I try to replicate #22, #23, #32 and #33. None of my treadle choices seem to replicate that. Am I missing something? Would those only achieved through direct tie up?
