S3-Episode 5 - Warp Faced
Beaming on the warp for this was really tough and the last group of threads knotted on themselves. No threads snapped but…
I tried to keep the warp at 7.5 inches going over the thread beam.
Are there ways to make this process easier for repp weave?
Sorry for the delay ;-( You would have had a lot of threads in your raddle! I would wind a warp like that slowly to make sure that everything was smoothly moving through the raddle. And, in the process, really keeping an eye on getting even tension in the warp as it approached the raddle. It's the ever-so slightly looser threads that seem to love tangling. I hope your project was a success and that you haven't given up on repp!
Thank you!
I am managing to weave this warp and am planning a second warp project. Not giving up!
I am about to put this warp on my baby wolf and worried about keeping it the proper width on the back beam. Will have radar on but it seems that it will be so thick the outer threads will easily want to move. Any ideas? On the rigid heddle I can put something Onsides to prevent movement but that won’t work on wolf
You’ll be fine, Catherine. Remember, you’ll have tension on your warp and paper in between your warp layers that will keep it in the right place. What is Radar? Not a term I’m familiar in weaving language 😏
I expanded the sample warp and got two nice placemats and a dresser-scarf-thingy.

And I tried to put an image in my comment, but something went amiss. Oh, well!
Hi team,
I'm trying out rep weave again but using 2/8 cotton because I have a nicer palette in it. I made the mistake of doing: 12.5" sleyed 3 per dent, so 36EPI thinking I would get warp faced and it is not of course because those coordinates make warp faced with 4/8 cotton. Silly me.
Any advice on what EPI I would need to get warp faced using the 2/8 cotton? Would 40 epi do it? Is there a way to figure that out or is it trial and error. Thanks!
If you go back and watch video 3.5.1 from 1:57 to 4:20, Jane shows how 8/4 cotton looks woven at 12 epi (normal sett), 24 epi (doubled), at 30 epi (2.5X), and at 36 epi (tripled). You can decide which look you like best, then apply that multiplier to your yarn. We generally use 8/2 cotton in plainweave at 18 epi, so doubled it wouldb e 36 epi, and tripled it would be 54 epi.
