I am thinking of trying the gamps on my Wolf Pup so it needs to be a little narrower - maximum width in the reed is 18”. Any problem with just making the natural stripes in the warp 8 threads rather than 10? That would be 96 threads of natural and the 220 on various colors with a total of 316 threads. 316 threads with 18 epi would equal out to 17.5 inches in the reed. I assume this will work.
Gamps
Hi Naomi,
I'm just a beginner, but I can't imagine that using 8 instead of 10, especially if 10 won't work on your reed. Have fun with the gamp. I really didn't think I could do it and by gosh, I did it. It's still my favorite thing of the fabrics I woven so far. In fact, when I finish my errands, I'm going to weave DLDDL on the muted color gamp later in the color and weave unit.
I have a Wolf question for you or anyone else who has a Wolf (Baby, Pup, or Mighty) loom. Do you ever have an issue with the brake cables getting crossed on the hub and if so, what did you do to fix it? I keep hoping there is a fix that doesn't involve dismantling it. For now, I very lightly tighten the brake before I loosen it to advance the warp. That helps most of the time. I have a Baby Wolf.
Enjoy the C&W gamp. It's a lot of fun to weave and very helpful for future weaving.
Thanks, Cynthia. I didn’t think it would matter but just wanted confirmation as I am also a newish weaver!
I haven’t had trouble with the brake cables getting crossed on my Wolf Pup. I would suggest contacting the Schacht Company. They have the best customer service. You can contact them through their website - maybe even send a photo of your problem. I have done this and have gotten quick and helpful answers.
Good luck!
I'm guessing you're talking about the Season 2 Episode 6 Muted Color Gamp? I don't see too much of a problem changing the natural to 8 threads, you'll just have smaller dividing sections. I think what you recommended is one of the options is mentioned in this handwoven article: https://handwovenmagazine.com/reducing-warp-widths-to-fit-your-loom/
This was a really fun gamp and turned out really pretty too. I wish I had put on more of this warp to be honest.
Many thanks! I thought that would work but as a new-ish weaver I am not confident with changing something and thereby creating unintended consequences. I found the article you attached very helpful!
