Just received my David III and I can't wait to get started. Decided to take Jane's lessons to heart and do my own thing and change the first sampler into tea towels maken them ± 60 cm / 24" wide. Using Venne Cottolin because thats what I have in my stash.. My David is 90 cm so I will still be able to change the set.
After doing the necessary math to convert inches to centimeters, I arrive at a schedule of 2.2.1. in a 40:10 reed. Am I right in thinking that in order to keep the proportions right I should then add about 9" white splitting it in 3" on the left and 6" on the right?

Hi Sandra, I do try, but I'm Dutch and inches and yards are difficult (not to say not logical). And all my equipment is in centimetres so if I do calculate in inches I still have to transfer somewhere to centimetres if just to be able to measure my work. Playing with the with of the stripes is a great idea, thank you for that.

I did my math. Calculated how many threads U would need for 24" (60 cm) and after some huffing and puffing found by how much I was scaling up the pattern. I ended up by having to choose stripes of either 15 or 16 threads. Decided on 15 so 45 white - 170 striped (17 x 15) - 120 white, switching out the red for turquoise. On to the warping board and thanks again for reminding me to adjust the stripes.
