Hello! I think I have approximately 3 yards of the Color & Weave warp left on my Schacht Baby Wolf. I am a new weaver and would really appreciate some help trying to decide what I can make with the remainder. I liked what Jane was doing at the end with cotton boucle and 20/2 linen, so I purchased some! I sort of reverse engineered the planning process since I already had the warp on the loom. Please let me know if I'm thinking correctly and heading in the right direction.

I'd like to open up the sett and make a scarf, but I see that my loom only has a 26" weaving width and with 348 epi already on it, 14 epi is the maximum amount I could open the sett and still fit my weaving width of my loom. I figure with draw-in and shrinkage the finished width would be around 22 inches. Is that too much for a scarf?? If I follow the dimensions in the Standard Size sheet, it is more like 15" max width. finished. That's pretty close to the 18 epi that the Color & Weave sample is at.
Question #1 : Would the 18epi with a Boucle and 2/20 linen weft at 18ppi be too stiff for a scarf.
Question #2: If I opened it up to 15-14 epi would that be too wide for a scarf? I do like big ones.
Question #3: should I make tea towels instead!

If you're talking about cotton boucle yarn, IMHO that would be too scratchy for a scarf. I love it for kitchen and hand towel weft as it has a scrubby texture.

Opening the set, but not using boucle, would make a lovely shawl. I like the wide ones.

Hi Mary, I’m sure you are long done this project, but I’d encourage you to give the bouclé a try. When it’s first comes off the loom it does seem stiff and scratchy, but after you wet finish and lightly press it really softens. I finished Parrot with bouclé sett at 12 epi and was pleased with the results-very stable and drapery. Still “toothier” than a 8/2 cotton shawl, but it’s probably the scarf I reach for most frequently. (Pics are posted on the Fibonacci board) Cheers!

Hi Lisa, Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I decided to go with Jane’s What If theory and finished it with bouclé at 12 epi. I agree that it is so soft after being washed and I really like the texture too. I’m glad I experimented. Your scarf is gorgeous!
