S2-Episode 5 - More on Fibonacci aka Parrot
these colours make me smile every time I look at my loom.
My take on Parrot, so far. Warp is five wide stripes alternating navy/peacock, peacock/fuchsia, fuchsia/hot pink, hot pink/pale orange, pale orange/apricot with narrow single-color stripes in between and on sides. Here are the towels I've made playing around on the first part of my warp:
Well done, Joan! 👏👏👏
You are on a roll, Joan!!!!!
I'm impressed with your color choices and your lack of draw in on the selvedges. How long have you been weaving?
Hi Kit, the color choices are from the kit for Season 2 Episode 5. I just rearranged them in the warp. I do have draw-in on the selvedges, but I don't worry about it. My selvedges have improved after watching how Jane handles the shuttle. I have been weaving for six years now, and I still can't believe my luck at finding such an awesome hobby!
Thanks so much for posting your gamp. I just finished my first tea towels and made up the colors I chose based on the pattern for Inspiration from a Sari on Jane's website.
Ooooh, I love those, too. I'll have to keep that color combination in mind. I'm still not completely comfortable with choosing colors, but maybe I can just lift the combinations from Jane's kits!

Just finished the parrot warp - loved the colours and playing with clasped weft!
Looking awesome, Jill! Love your clasped weft sample!
Hello, did you weave on the "Jane", an 8 harness table loom? A friend lent me an 8 harness table loom and I was curious if it's hard to get through all the towels on that loom. I have a 4h Leclerc floor loom and it's currently occupied.
Wow, what a workshop/studio. I am envious.
I’m trying to order yarn from a distributor of Brassard (I’m in the US, it’s easier for me to buy locally). Do you know what the Brassard names are for Apricot & Hot Pink? Thanks!
Apricot is color number 3161 Jaune or and Hot pink is color number1330 Rose foncé . Hope this helps.
I have really loved the colours in Parrot! I decided to do the large square apricot version and then went off the rails and tried to do a division of space in 3 for each colour band. It didn't turn out to be my favorite incarnation of the towels, but I didn't know until I tried it. No regrets!! Its a little psychedelic if you look at it long enough LOL! Ha!

Best advice from my husband to our youngest: now, don't wreck Mommy's weavy thing.
Wow, looking at everyone's samples, I feel like I should have been more adventurous. I was really focused on getting some practice and making items I could give away. So, 4 towels and 4 napkins. I have never been able to weave so quickly and consistently, and I'm really loving it. One problem I had - I got everything squared on the loom, but after it came off and was washed, they were no longer square. Being a rug weaver, maybe I'm used to weaving at a higher tension, then it springs back? Maybe one of the resident experts can comment on that.
At the end of the warp, I played around with some twill treadles, the most interesting of which was a single shaft repeated, alternating with tabby.
Maybe as a rug weaver - you were just beating too hard for the fabric 😉 Were you measuring your picks per inch as you were weaving? It's easy to get into a rhythm and forget to count your ppi making sure you are getting the picks you need for different yarns and setts.
