Hello weavers,

I’m a complete beginner and have been watching Season 1 and part of Season 2. I’ve worked out how to calculate the number of warp threads I need and I’m about to start my very first warp on the warping board.

I can’t seem to find where or how to join a new colour on the warping board. I’d like to do half of my project in one warp colour and the second half in another colour. Is there a specific method for changing colours on the warping board?

I’ve also watched the first video a few times and am confused about why Jane is using two strands together when warping. Is this something most people do, or is it specific to that project?

I’m sorry for the very basic questions. I inherited a four-shaft table loom and have no experience, but am determined to learn.

Hello Mel - the handy thing about questions from complete beginners is that those of us who are even just a little bit further along may be able to answer them! For changing colours on warping board, I just tie a knot to connect the old colour with the new colour at the end peg...at which ever end that is, depending on how many warp threads are in the first colour. As for warping with two threads at once, I haven't really used this method much. As far as I know, it is primarily used to speed up the process of preparing the warp....but unless you are very short of time, or have some other reason for wanting to minimise warping speed ( as opposed to warp speed! ) I would just stick with guiding a single thread at a time around the warping board. That's my 'not quite beginner' advice anyway! Lucky you to have been given a table loom!
