I thought I had finally created a good evenly tensioned warp on my loom - finally after several projects - then after about 40-50" weaving the left 1/3 of the warp became looser than the rest of the warp. I'm on Harrisville Designs 40/8 and I warped as Jane taught us back to front using a raddle and thick craft paper (the kind they put down to protect flooring) on the back beam. To deal with the uneven tension now I'm tucking a couple of weaving sticks between the warp and back beam but I think I'm going to have to weight sections in the back to get it more even. I've checked every bolt on my loom and they are fine. Any ideas on what could have happened or other techniques to try in the future like a separator on the cloth/front beam?
I’ve never woven on a Harrisville loom, but you have checked the bolts and “hardware”. Is it possible you were interrupted when you were winding your warp? Sometimes just releasing the tension might make a difference.
Yes, I did check all the bolts to ensure nothing was loose. I just can't imagine how I could have started with good tension then experience looser tension after weaving for several feet.
