I purchased 2 x 1lb cones of Monte Cristo cotton from you some time ago with the view to making two Baby Blankies. My Project Specs from the October 2015 Weaver’s Retreat doesn’t include the warp length. I’ve spent quite some time using a couple of different formulas to calculate warp length, including the pdf from Season 1, but my figures come in over the amount of the two cones. Could you please tell me the warp length of the “Baby Blankie with cording & denting” pattern?

Hi Sandra, warp completed & on the loom. The Warp Threading Sequence says to “thread 2 ends together in one heddle”. After threading 44 ends in tabby, the 2 ends are then placed in a separate heddle, before recommencing the next 44 ends in tabby. My question is which heddle to thread them in in order to maintain the integrity of the pattern? Your explanation of the sequence would be appreciated.

Hi Sandra, I don’t have page 2 or the graph that you have mentioned, only the single page which was included in the Deluxe and Delicious Weaving Patterns booklet that I received at the 2015 Weaver’s Retreat which I attended. I wove the Baby Blankie at the retreat and still have it here with me in Australia to refer to.
My Specs Warp Threading Sequence says:
Thread 44 ends, one per heddle then thread 2 ends in one heddle. Repeat this sequence 5 more times. End with your last 44 ends, one per heddle.

The threading graph included is only showing plain weave, ie, 1234.
I can see from my own sample that the double threads blend into the pattern but am unsure about their threading in the heddles. Could you please send me the complete instructions as it appears that the single page from the Retreat is incomplete.

Hi fellow baby blankie weavers. I believe I understand the warping and sleying directions in this kit, but I do have a question about the weaving. The directions say "throw a double pick of plain weave anchoring the second pick on your selvedge in one shed". Does this mean just wrap the weft around the outer most thread? It seems this would create a bump along the selvedge. If there is enough yarn in the kit, couldn't a floating selvedge be used instead? Thanks for any help. Cindy

Hi Cindy - if you look at the threading chart, you’ll see that floating selvedges are included in the warp and weaving of Canvas Weave. Have fun weaving this delightful blanket.

Hi Sandra - I actually have the other baby blanket kit - the Organic Cloud Baby Blanket. It is plain weave and the threading chart does not include floating selvedges. The pattern calls for two picks in the same shed, anchoring around the selvedge. It seems like this would leave a bump on the selvedge. I hesitate to just add floating selvedges because I don't want to run out of yarn. Thanks - Cindy

I think, since you only throw a double pick 7 times, it would be easy to just tuck the 2nd pick under or over the outside thread at the selvedge. You won’t even notice it when it’s finished … I’ve woven this blankie a couple of times :-)

Hi there,
I have a question about the Baby Blankie in Monte Cristo as well. When you do the double pick, do you beat gently so that there is a gap on either side of the double pick, beating the double pick together at the same time ; or do you throw the first of the double pick, beat gently , throw the second of the double pick, beat gently and then continue ensuring that you don't beat hard on the next pick?
I know what I'm trying to say, but it's hard to describe.

Perfect sense. Thank you. I did beat each pick instinctively the first time and then got to the second and wondered if I should do it differently!
