Probably the dumbest question you've received. When beginning weaving on a twill pattern, or any pattern, I know Jane says to do a few pics of plain weave first. Does that mean I tie up the shuttles for plain weave and then tie them for twill, or the pattern of the specific project? Thanks, as always.
There are no dumb questions!!! In your 2/2 Twill tie-up, you include your tie-ups for twill and PW - 6 treadles. The first picks in PW, after you have tied on your warp, are to spread it out, ready to weave. Then you leave a bit of space and start weaving your twill, your cloth will draw in a bit because you are going over/under 2 threads. Keep in mind that PW cloth will be a wee bit wider than twill because PW interlacement is 1 warp/1 weft. Twill is narrower because the interlacement is 2 warp/2 weft or 3 warp/1 weft.
Thank you for such a quick response; If I had thought about that, I might have recognized the answer.
