I am in the process of winding a warp for the Colour and Weave Gamp. The spools are in the box on dowels and I was winding two at a time when suddenly one of the threads snagged: it had spun off the end of its spool and was wrapping around the dowel. Of course, I had no sooner untangled that when the other thread did the same thing. I'm wondering how to keep the threads from slipping off the ends of the spools?
Thinking of putting the spools in individual containers/jars as I'm used to doing.
Thanks, Diane
Winding multiple ends
Hi Diane,
I realize you posted this months ago, but I was wondering if you went back to using individual jars and, if so, were you pleased with the results.
I use old straight knitting needles and sometimes metal skewers (clean, of course). I have some plastic smallish boxes that have openings on the sides and they work pretty well, but I do have the problem you had. Sometimes I move the box a little and that helps. Mostly, I just slip out of my shoe and try to fix it with my foot, which works just often enough that I try that before hitching the yarns on a peg and bending over and fixing the problem.
Kindest regards,
Cynthia
I am a newbie at this multiple threads. When I came to DDDD/LLLL you said to warp with two ends in your hand. Question is which two DD, LL or DL x four? I think this was addressed somewhere but I haven't found it. Please help.
HI Darlene, if you've not figured it out by now, I'l like to offer some help, as I created quite a problem for myself when I didn't fully get the method. So:
warp with 2D up and down, or down and up; then 2L. do this until you have the # of strands, then with 2D+2L in your hand wrap until you have the required # and follow up with 2L, then2D.
I believe that will get us both where we want to go.
Someone correct me if I am wrong here!!
