Where is the info showing how to wind yarn from a skein winder onto a 4 inch bobbin?
Patti Kilpatick
Hi Patti - in my world, I rarely wind a bobbin from a skein winder. I dye a number of my weaving yarns in natural dyes and wind them from the skein onto the Leclerc Styrene Spools that Jane carries in her shop. ( https://janestaffordtextiles.com/product/leclerc-styrene-spools/). I find that gives me much more control over the yarn when winding the bobbin, and they are easy to store. If you plan to wind the whole skein onto bobbins in one session, you can wind from the skein winder directly to the bobbins. The problems arise when you only use part of a skein and then take it off to use another time. It’s hard to get it to stay in order after you have untied it. 😉
How do I wind the skein onto the styrene spool? I bought the kit for season 6 episode 9 but need to wind the silk. I have the large spools.
Do you have an umbrella swift? I put my silk skeins on mine and wind it onto the styrene spool using my bobbin winder.
Oh thanks. I used my swift with my hand winder but will try the electric bobbin winder! Wish me luck!
Josephine, how did it work using the electric winder instead of hand winding? I did mine by hand which worked fine, but I am thinking about an electric winder in general for all bobbin windings....
