Hi there, I'm a new weaver and have a warping board question. My warping board is a 25+ year old Schacht and in great condition, except for the fact that the pegs are impossible to remove- they're in really tight. I imagine the wood has swollen from years of storage in a garage. Do you have to take out a peg to remove a warp? It looks like Jane doesn't on the boucle warp when using the older board.

Also, is there anytime when a warping board is a better choice over a table top warping mill? Thinking of possibly purchasing a mill. Thank you!

If it is any help, I have an old warping board but have never taken the pegs out - I suspect once out they would come out when you didn't want them to. Enjoy your weaving.

It isn't necessary to remove the pegs, and in fact when you wriggle the pegs back and forth in the action of taking them out, the holes they fit into become a tiny bit larger each time, rendering it less stable. I wouldn't try to remove the pegs. The spaces between the pegs on most warping boards are spaced adequately to allow for comfortable warping without removing the pegs.

Are there different peg lengths on different warping boards? I ask this because I don't think I would have enough room to put all my warps on my pegs to do a 20" warp for towels or whatever . I'm wondering what other people do?

Hi Marjorie - I wind more than one warp and dress the loom with both warps. There are many times that this is necessary - a wider project or a thicker yarn might be a reason for winding more than one..
