Hi, Just learning to weave and have done a small sample before starting Season 2. I will probably do another sample just for more practice. Looking at Jane's videos she explained to get a balanced weave you should match the number of epi to the picks per inch. Despite how I seemed to beat I only got 14 ppi but had 20 epi. The weave seems okay but even doing a double beat I couldn't easily get the 20 ppi. I am weaving on a Jane and open shed. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong. Many thanks,

What yarns are you using for your sample? Are they the same size?
Sorry for the delay, time differences can make it hard. I used a 10 dent reed and it was sleyed at 2 threads per dent. Thinking about it my warp was probably not that good either as it seemed a bit looser in the middle.

Just reading about your epi/ppi dilemma. I seem to recall that Jane addresses this issue in at least one of the videos in Season 1 and perhaps another in Season 2. If memory serves me correctly Jane was pointing out to balance the weave in a case such as this, you need to consider the number of threads in the square inch. Therefore if I understand you correctly at 20 epi and 14 ppi a balanced weave sett would be 17 epi (or round it up to 18 epi)
The 18 epi for an 8/2 cotton is suggested in the Master Sett Chart for a drapey fabric. I am thinking that this might be true too, for the Cottolin.

That could be your problem…..having your warp tied evenly onto your cloth beam is essential to being able to even start to get a balanced cloth. It would really help you to go back and watch how Jane ties her warp on in Season 1.2.6 - Tying onto the Front Apron and Tensioning the Warp.
