I love the method that Jane shows for weaving, but I am having trouble adapting it to my Dorothy loom. The challenge is that there is no shuttle race, so throwing the shuttle is not straightforward, and I have to lean forward (and let go of the shuttle every second time) to move the shaft levers. Does anyone have advice on how to adapt Jane's method to this setup?
Hi Janet - lots of looms don’t have shuttle races, not just table looms. I use my table loom as a second loom and need to change my toggles with every pick I weave. If my shuttle is in my right hand and I throw it to my left hand - once it’s in my left - with my right hand I beat the pick, change toggles and move the beater back. Once it’s in my left hand and ready to throw - I repeat everything using my left. There is a rhythm you develop as your mind and hands start to understand what is expected of them. Be patient with yourself and as you practice, everything will fall into lace, I promise!

My toggles are on the right side, not in the middle of the castle, so when I throw the shuttle to my right hand and beat, I then have to put the shuttle down to change the toggle. I am getting a nice rhythm, but it's broken by the toggle change on the right.

Silly me, I knew that but forgot - Senior moment ;-) It does make it slightly harder but you will develop your own rhythm!
