I love weaving because it always throws you a new challenge! I'm making a scarf from lovely merino, silk and Seacell yarn and don't want to ruin it by doing something silly. I need to have 8 " of warp at the beginning of the scarf for the fringe. Where do I place it? I also have to do hem stitching at each end to secure the fringes. I'm thinking that at the beginning I need a few rows of "spreader" pics then advance 8" inches and then carefully throw two pics of my beginning weft from which I will do my hem stitching. Don't want to start until I get confirmation or a better idea. Many thanks.
Your scarf sound luscious, Adrian! Don't forget that your fringe can be part of your tie-on to your rod. If you tie your warp on securely, but carefully - it should be relatively easy to undo it and twist it into your fringe. Jane suggests tieing on in segments of no more than 1" but I think you could go less than that. It will give you a solid base to weave your spreader rows, then do your hemstitching and start your scarf. If you are worried about including that warp in the tie-on, then just start measuring after you've tied on and you can include your spreader rows in the fringe area. You can carefully cut that weft out after you take your beautiful scarf off the loom. Photos please!
