I have a 4-shaft Baby Mac and I am attempting to weave a wrap with 4/28 cashmere for both warp and weft. I only have a 15 dent reed. I am currently frozen with fear of starting and would like some opinions.
I have the warp ready to go but can't decide if I should do ftb or btf. After watching the video on the mohair I wonder if ftb would be easier on the fiber?
Also wondering if I need to skip or use every slot of the 15 dent? I wove a little sample on a small hand loom and the fiber fulls up so dreamy. Has anyone used cashmere for both warp and weft?
Thanks!
I've woven with 28/2 cashmere as weft and 30/2 silk as the warp wound on back to front. Cashmere is finer than mohair but with 4 ends in each thread it should be strong enough to be a warp. You'll be fine winding it on back to front. What structure are you using? That will determine what sett you need.
Thanks for the response. I plan on just a plain weave. It's a 20' wide by 6 ft long warp. I was able to get it carefully wound on back to front with no breaks so far. (holding my breath!) I haven't threaded it yet.
