As a beginning weaver, every new project creates learning opportunities. I've already navigated several successfully on this project but this new one has me stumped. I'm weaving a straight twill with floating selvages that were wound as part of the warp as Jane recommends. They are weighted with S hooks at the back. Or at least I thought that they were. As I wove, one of them was getting slack, so I went to the back of the loom to check and it appeared that I had weighted the wrong thread (not sure how that happened). I moved the weight and wove a pick or two when the selvage thread broke, right at the fell line.
I did a little research and found the place where Jane talks about repairing a broken warp thread, but I am not sure how I would go about needle weaving in a selvage. Can anyone provide some insight?
Hi Dean,
What I do is after it's off the loom I'll needle weave the tail bit of the new selvedge thread next to the original selvedge thread for about an inch or so and then finish needle weaving it as a weft thread for about an inch.
