Hello, I am working on an undulating twill, #80392 from handweaving.net. This is the first twill that I have done that is not a straight draw. I am making these to be towels, and I typically like to hemstitch and leave a short .75" fringe on either end. With the threading of this draft there is no way that I can see to get plain weave, and usually for hemstitching I will weave 2 picks of PW and then do the hemstitch. I am worried about the stability of the hemstitching with this undulating twill. Are there any rules of thumb for hemstitching when your twill is not straight draw/doesn't have any option for a few picks of plain weave?
Have you taken a look at Episode 4.3.2 at the 4.55 minute mark? I know that Jane's example is a 4 shaft undulating twill but it might be worth checking to see if it works with your project. Keep us posted - it looks like a fun weave structure.
Why not plan on a folded and sewn hem?
I am late in making these as Christmas gits, and find that a simple hemstitch and short fringe works well and is a time-saver.
