Launching back into school after completing Christmas work. Having done so many narrow pieces, I am looking forward to the baby blankets in S4E4. I also want to splurge on silk for a scarf from the large threadings gamp.
I have been weaving for 10 years now, but mostly following patterns. I have recently joined JST School of weaving and I am very excited. I am finishing Charlotte’s Log cabin scarf in tencel and have just warped the asymmetry sample. My plan for the year is to immerse myself on this learning journey and bring my weaving to another level. Happy New Year!
Holly and Berry variations:
I am a new weaver with a new Spring II loom in one place (and a Baby Wolf I plan to sell right before I move in May). I have very limited experience with both looms (only 2x2 twill and Jane's favorite Tea Towels on Baby Wolf and Holly & Berry on the Spring) but will finish my towels and then make some adjustments on my newly assembled Spring before I leave it on Tuesday.
The only change in the holly and berry was buying a green kit and then adding royal and cobalt blue to the stripes. I find it's easier to see what I am doing if I have some color variation. But I have never had treadle 1 on the left so the initial confusion was born of old habits from weaving yards of twill.

Double weave. Jane's season 8 and Jennifer Moore zoom class too
Hello: I am weaving a Qiviut blanket double weave on my 8 shaft Spring one. No giving a lot of thought I threaded a Carol Strickler 327-6 Herringbone type pattern - 12345678. 4321. 8765 repeated. Now to tie up treadles and wonder if someone would be kind enough to help me.
When I look at Jane's double weave tie up it is 13, 123578, 135678, etc and I think I would tie these to the lower lams and the ones not used to the top lams. Many thanks if you could set me straight. Thank you Barb
I started weaving about 18 months ago and started with Jane’s cotton tea towels. I have had so much fun with colour that I haven’t moved on. But I have become infatuated with deflected double weave so this year I plan to start learning more than just plain weave and hope to get right to the DDW. 4 shaft DDW doesn’t really interest me so a new to me 8 shaft loom arrives in mid February.
Jane, I just completed my first DDW project, a towel pattern by Elizabeth Hill. I made napkins for my daughter for Christmas. They were super fun to weave and even more fun to watch as they shifted in the water! Unfortunately, I was so busy designing that I didn't really do my research into which yarn I should be using for napkins. So my lovely DDW napkins are a bit rustic in 8/2 cottolin, but she loved them and I promised her a batch of more refined ones next time. I did try Elizabeth's technique of moving the weft up and down through the fabric on select picks (you just have to play with it to see where this needs to happen) so that the pattern weft stays in the body of the fabric and only the selvedge yarn comes to the edge. Having tried it both ways, I found that I liked the clean look of it better than bringing every pick to the outside edge. Good luck with your new loom and your first DDW project!

I would love your rustic napkins! I can’t wait to get started. I am just finishing up my master spinner homework so that I can be free, free, free when my loom arrives. Can you believe the amount of playing that is involved?! So fun.

Just took this deflected doubleweave scarf off the loom. Loved this weave structure. It is woven in zephyr and I sadly hear there will no longer be zephyr available. Just love that fibre.

I have just finished all my Christmas sewing and have two more birthday gifts to complete then I can go back to my loom. I have the Colorado Tartan on my Baby Wolf. Straight draw twill so easy treadling but the color changes are a little more challenging. So far it's looking gorgeous.
