I am a fairly new weaver. I'm probably on my 6th warping. In my first 3 warps, I didn't have any broken threads. the last three have been different. I was going to do the Eco-jean scarf. I warped the loom and started weaving and so many threads broke I got frustrated and thought it was the thread. I took all that off. The next warp was 8/2 cotton and there were probably 6 broken threads for the whole warp - it wasn't bad. The next one had quite a few initially, but then they stopped breaking. This last warp is the Bambu and it has been non-stop! I have woven 4 inches and had 12 threads break so far. I am so frustrated. They are breaking on one side near the edge and then in different places all along. I am wondering why. I have metal heddles - could that be it? What should I do? I really like this warp and hate to waste it. Please give me any ideas or troubleshooting you might have. Am I doing something wrong?
What loom do you have, Carrie?
Carrie - I use metal heddles 90% of the time. Different metal heddles - some thicker and some really fine wire-like heddles. Not found them to be a problem in general. Hope that this might help in your deliberations.
Carrie...maybe you are tightening the tension too much on your warp??
