Hello. I'm assembling a new Louet Jane 70cm loom with 16 shafts. As a beginner, I'm not sure but I don't think the heddles that came with the kit will be enough and I only want to set up the loom once. Can anyone please recommend the best number of heddles/shaft that will allow for the most number of patterns? Thank you! Jennifer
Adjusting the number of heddles you need on your shafts is something that happens when you weave different projects and is easy to do. For example - I can weave with 12 shafts on my table loom but rarely need or want to do that. I "store" a few heddles on the last 4 shafts but put the majority of my heddles are on shafts 1 - 8 and still need to move them around depending on the weave structure I'm weaving. You can have projects with the same number of ends but that need to be on "just" 4 shafts or on 8 or more shafts. The more heddles you have stored on your loom, the less the weaving width you have available for your project. Does this make sense?
