I have just put a 9 yard warp on my loom - Jane’s swediSH tea towel kit - and while spreading the warp across the raddle I discovered a couple of broken warp threads. they were single threads so I just tied them to the tie on rod but I’m not sure that will work when i beam the warp on . I’m warping back to front. Would it be better to replace those threads as I’m threading the heddles. Thanks, Diane
Hi Diane -It's likely that they will show themselves to you when you wind the warp on. When you start to thread your heddles, you"ll notice those threads missing. Take a 9 yd. length of each thread and put them where they should be in your warp. Then, hang them over the back of the loom. I find something to wind it on with a bit of weight. Jane uses empty cones but I just don't have those lying around. See https://www.schoolofweaving.tv/videos/2-2-3-introduction-to-sample-on where Jane changes the red zinger into a grey one. Don't worry - this happens to most weavers!
Thanks Sandra,
I'm attaching a picture of what the broken/single thread looks like on the back of my loom. Are you suggesting I not tie this thread on to the tie rod as shown and not include it when I am beaming on? Then replace it with a new 9 yard length of thread when I thread my heddles? I have two or three single threads like this.
Diane
Sandra,
I wasn't able to load the picture using imgbb.com. I loaded it as an html full linked. Any suggestions?
Diane
Before I turn my light out 😉 - what I really need to know where it’s broken. If it’s broken at either end, then it’s not a big deal and you did the right thing! If it’s broken somewhere in the middle of your warp, then it’s more of a problem and the method I wrote about works. Your photo didn’t come through so send me the photo to [email protected]. Sweet dreams 😴
Sandra,
Thanks for your late night reply. You've gone the full mile! I'm trying to resend the picture of my broken warp thread on the back of my loom. I've uploaded it on imgbb as a html fully linked image. Hope this works.
