I am threading the heddles for Jane’s Favorite tea towel kit, and the number of ends is 430 for plain weave, showing threading 1, 2, 3, 4. There are 2 threads left over at the end. Why and what should be done with them.
Were they supposed to be floating selvages?
With the structure being plain weave and I would just thread them into the next 2 heddles which are probably 1,2 - unless you actually skipped a couple in the middle. It can happen if you are interrupted 😉
Good thought, Lise!
430 isn't divisible evenly by 4, that's why you have 2 extra.
I realize the reason (430 isn’t divisible by 4), but why wouldn’t the end count have been 2 more and been 432 (allowing for a division of four AND allow for a division of 3 when slaying the reed 1, 2? Because it is plain weave there is no need for a floating salvage and the diagram for threading the heddles doesn’t show a floating salvage. I am a beginner and have found this confusing. I ended up dropping the last 2 threads, but I thing the directions should be updated to 432 ends.
That’s true. But knowing the total number of ends didn’t match your pattern repeat lets you know it’s not a threading error.
Thank you for your feedback.
