The directions for the Oslo towels say to wind 5 threads at a time. The EPI is 18. How should this be distributed in the raddle with the groups of 5 in the cross?? My raddle has 1/2 spacing. Thanks for guidance.
Good morning, Judith. Once your warp is safely in your cross on the back of your loom (for the method or preparing your loom in Season 1 Episode 2), your warp will be ready to spread in your raddle. Just take your threads in the order they present themselves to you in your cross and place them in your raddle. Once you get the warp on your loom and are threading your heddles - you'll be able to sort those 5 threads into the order they need to be in their "family" group. Have you gone back and rewatched that episode in Season !?
Thank you, Sandra. I have watched Season 1 several times and warp the way Jane does. It works so well! Where I was confused, though, is the guidance to "not split groups of threads in the raddle" and spreading the warp for 18 EPI. Because the warp is wound in groups of 5 and my raddle is 1/2 spacing, I either need to spread it at 20 EPI or 15 EPI or 20/15/20, etc. I am not sure what is the best approach.
What kind of raddle do you have? Is it one that you clamp on your loom - if so, how wide are the sections in it. Or, is it a Louet raddle that is built into your loom? When you say 1/2 spacing - are you describing ½” sections?
You could do 10, 10, 10, 10, 5 repeated. That would give you an average of 18 epi.
Hi Sandra and Kathleen.
Yes, it is a raddle with 1/2 inch spacing and I am clamp it to the top of the loom. Kathleen, thank you for the suggestion and the math! It did not occur to me that I could have a longer sequence of groupings. Off to the loom now!
