5/2 and 8/4 cotton

Hello. Can I substitute 8/4 cotton for 5/2 (mercerized)? Would I need to adjust the sett?

Hello Beth- did you come to a conclusion on that question? I want to try some double weaving which is supposed to be in 5/2 cotton, but I have none of that...and lots of 8/4 cotton! The sett is supposed to be 16epi in an 8 dent reed (i.e 32 epi in the warp to provide for the two layers). Thanks.

Thanks Sandra that is very interesting. So using this formula you can get the yardage per pound of cotton in this instance. the longer the yarn the thinner the yarn. For each pound.
