Hello Weavers
I'm about to start an overshot project.
I want to treadle TAW Not adjusted for overshot. I want to treadle TAW according to the threading - thread by thread.
Do I use tabby between the picks?
I want to use 16/2 bamboo for the warp\tabby weft, and 8/2 cotton for the pattern - what sett should I use with or without the tabby between the picks? (towels project)
Thank you all
Alon
Hello Alon,
The tabby ground fabric is what makes a stable cloth for overshot patterns. Why would you want to eliminate the tabby picks?
Hi Cheryl
Thank you for your answer.. I think in one of the summer & winter episodes -some of the treadling options did not include tabby. although its the ground cloth there as well.
Because the threading TAW does not repeat the same treadle more then once I thought it might be the rule in this case. Reading your reply now, makes me think, that the two tie warp threads (1-2) of the structure make it possible to drop the tabby , and still keeping the fabric stable without floats problems.. (in the summer & winter case..) I think...
Thank you for clearing this ..
Any suggestions about sett?
Alon
Alon, I have never woven with 16/2 bamboo.
Are you weaving towels.? I wouldn’t think that bamboo would be strong enough for regular use or absorbent??
Hi Cheryl
I am weaving towels.
As far as I read - cotton, linen, bamboo are supposed to be absorbent - being plants fibers. I don't know how true that is. I don't have 16/2 or 4 cotton at the moment...
From my experience, it is stronger than 16/2 cotton. I usually use 16/2 bamboo the same as 16/2 cotton. same sett. But I'm a bit new to overshot so (the 2nd project) so I wanted a starting point.
I thought of 20 epi (a bit less than the recommended PW sett). In worse case scenario the towel will be firm but that's not too bad for towels. and then open it a bit.
Any way.. I'll start there and see how it goes.
Thank you for your advices and replies, Cheryl, I really appreciate it :-)
Alon
