I just finished weaving the canvas weave sampler from season 5 in linen on an 8 harness Leclerc Compact jack loom. Not sure if it’s me or the loom or a combination, but it was not easy. Tying the warp on was tough, so I made my bouts 4 threads or so. I had trouble with the floating threads and the edge threads keeping tension, so weighted them. The shed is pretty small and to avoid catching the lower threads I had the tension super tight. And I found it easier to weave with damp bobbins. The Venne linen has an amazing sheen and despite everything the samples are pretty amazing. Do I dare weave linen again?
Don’t stop now! Take what you’ve learned on your first journey with linen and make notes so you won’t have to learn it again ;-) Keep in mind that linen has been spun and woven for thousands of years on a lot of looms more “primitive” than your loom. Enjoy the adventure, Aina!
