Peggy Halderman here in Denver, CO. Getting back to weaving after a 10-year hiatus to start a nonprofit to feed kiddos. So...my issue: I recall that Jane said (in one of the videos!) that she always uses a 6 dent reed for her double weave regardless of the sett. Trying to find that and can't. Anyone else know the answer? Got the "fold" nailed but am working on a 12 EPI cotton warp for my 90" (45" double weave) blanket for our bedroom. Would like to follow Jane's methods before I begin threading.. Thanks!
I skimmed one of my notes on DW and I can't find the 6 dent either. She is using an 8 dent reed for the double Weave exercise using the Harrisville Shetland.
I bet it's 6 dent with the Mohair blanket episode.
I'll try and check after dinner. Just waiting for the slow cooker to finish up... so slow:)
Ya' know, that is ringing a bell. It was more of an "aside" comment about ALWAYS using a 6 dent read...I do think it was during her discussion of Mohair blankies!! (I think about fulling and brushing...). Thanks! I'll chase that down...or just may try it on this big baby!! Thanks, "nato"!!
This is just one reason that this forum is so great. There will almost always be someone who knows the answer. 😉🥰
I don’t remember that, but it seems like it would depend on the yarn. I’ve done several blankets using either Harrisville Shetland, or alpaca and I use either a 8 or 10. I have a 6 but that seems way too open to me.
I understand your thinking, Deb. But when I was running both the sett of the cotton I am using and what all I need to use through the reed, well, I am thinking running either an 8 or 10 dent reed would be too cramped. But thanks for the thoughts..... Really, really appreciate it, Deb! Thanks...
Just checked the Reed Substitution Chart and am going to try a 6 dent reed with 4 ends/dent.... Will do a quick sample of that on my Baby Wolf before I warp up/sley my Big Baby (60" LeClerc....)! I'll report back with what a good solution turns out to be. Can't thank you all enough for your input/comments!! Now I don't feel "stuck..."
