So... I got my warp wound and chained for the turned twill lesson. Finally.
BUT...I decided to use up some of my 8/4 instead of using the 8/2 that the pattern calls for. It just occurred to me that this might not be a good idea.
If I sley it the same as the pattern (10 dent reed with 2/dent) it will be pretty stiff, won't it?
And if I sley it in my 8 dent, at 2/dent, it will be much wider, right?
I also suspect this involves my least favorite subject--MATH. Argh.
Why do I do this to myself? Why do I always have to venture off the path? lol.

Any suggestions are more than welcome!

The sett for placemats 8/4 is 15-16 in Jane's master sett chard. you would end with 30 inch wide placemats.
You could use them horizontal and make the 30 inch the length. That warp will make a lot of placemats then...

You could take some threads out. Easiest in the parts with x8 and x15 times same units and colour and take a lot care of symmetrie.

My babyblankies I just showed are 8/4 cotton sett at 12 EPI. They are nice and soft and would also make nice lightweigt summer towels.
I would open the sett to 12. You will end with 40 inch towels/blankies/wraps or what ever.

Deb, I agree with Catherine. Your 8/4 warp would make some lovely towels...or a beautiful decorative throw (bed scarf) at the end of your bed like you see in a lot of home decorating these days. I have them at the end of my bed for my dear dog to sleep on...and another one that I cover her up with in the winter LOL. Just pick a pattern or two out of the episode that you really like and weave something longer.

Because I’m impatient, last night I did some lame calculations and after looking at the charts, decided to use an 8 dent and 16epi. It isn’t threaded yet but as I predicted, is 30 inches in the raddle. I can live with that. I’m just learning so whatever it ends up being will be fine. Horizontal placemats sound good. I’ll keep you posted.

Also, I only wound for 6 yards instead of the full amount.

And I can’t wait to watch the new episode of Season 7 tonight. 🥰
