I have a skein of yarn (only 200m) of 50% Mulberry Silk and 50% Tussah Silk. It's about worsted weight, hand-dyed in Canada by Swiss Mountain Silk. What can I combine it with to make scarf? Alpaca? Harrisville Shetland? Cotton? What would be best? Curious what any of you would do? Thanks in advance for any direction on this! :)

I suspect you could use any of those yarns—I think the structure/pattern you choose will need to showcase the beautiful yarn, so I am very interested in what suggestions you get for that. I have one skein that I would like to highlight, so need some ideas. Supplementary warp is one idea I’ve had, or Theo Moorman technique is another. Would like to use it as part of a garment, perhaps as an asymmetrical front panel, so looking forward to hearing ideas.
what have you decided Deb? I swear, I've been thinking about your beautiful yarn on and off. It's a form of constructive procrastination for me or so I'd like to believe. :)
John Crossman's question about dummy warps got me thinking that you could try that so you don't have too much loom waste if you wanted it to use it as a warp. Then I thought of the lesson where we crammed and dented could be useful since you wouldn't need nearly as much yarn for a scarf. I love the colors of that yarn. I wonder if a warp with a complimentary yarn that's not too thin wool would be nice since it would help stick the silk.
I haven't really worked much with silk except I am slowly working my way thru the overshot exercise. It's such a thin silk.
Have fun! I can't wait to see the final project!!
I haven’t decided yet. It on the back burner so to speak, since I have a couple of other projects that need doing first. Those are good ideas, however, at this time I’m not that interested in cramming and denting. That might change, of course. I’ll keep you posted. The yarn IS so lovely, and I do want to use it to the best advantage. Still thinking. Thanks for the suggestions!
