Has anyone used the new version of the Brassard 8/4 yarn?
can it be it mixed and matched with the old version?
I didn’t know there was a new version. What’s different?
I got a newsletter from a yarn place. I cut and pasted what they said:
“Previously, it was made of four strands of 16/2 cotton plied together. In 2022, Brassard has begun switching to a true 8/4 (four strands of 8/1 plied together) and expects to have all colors transitioned by the end of the year”
Err— beyond that description, I haven’t a clue although I hope it will won’t be stiff like Maysville 8/4 carpet warp. The newsletter doesn’t say much beyond that.
The Brassard 8/4 I have been using with my Rigid Heddle must be the "new" version, as it only has 4 plies. It wove just fine in my RHL with a 12 dent and I wouldn't consider it stiff at all. After washing it has a nice drape and makes a nice towel.
