Hello all, I'm doing the research into a semi crazy idea and I wanted to see what my options were for one of the bigger hurdles. My current set up is a 90cm David 3 and an Ashford warping mill that can do 14 yards long, but I've found at 10 it's near it's limits.

My dilemma is that the series of projects I am finishing research for, require cloth that is a continuous length of at least 16 yards and up to 24 yards potentially. The width at the low end would be 10" but the high end might be the full width of my David. Now my ashford mill will not hold that at all, so I was wondering if there's a way I could do it without any extra equipment (note I don't have a hall or space for up to 24 yard long warp threads to be laid out). Or would something like a floor mill be something I would need to look into? If so, does anyone have any recommendations as to a brand? If I needed to get a floor mill, then ideally if I can fold it like I do with the Ashford (I remove the y nuts on the braces and store them so the mill can be more or less flat).

I know in Season 1, Jane shows a floor mill and so that's where my thought of a floor mill came from.

Hi Tyler. I am interested in the answer to this as well. I am not doing particularly long warps, but I find that my warping mill (a homemade one by my husband that is based on the Harrisville model) maxes out pretty quickly and I find myself doing sections so they don't mush together as much. I am quite sure that someone here will have the answer!

Can you not measure the warp in multiple segments?

Hi Tyler, You will not be able to make one entire warp of any great length on a table model warping mill. You could make multiple warps a few inches wide and then slide them all onto your apron rod and lease sticks as I do in the videos. Many weavers do that. I love my Glimakra floor model warping mill and I know a lot of people have the Leclerc floor model. Those are the only 2 that I know of. Floor warping mills do take up space in your studio, that is the only disadvantage to owning one. But maybe you have space :)
