I'm planning on weaving a double-weave blanket in 2/2 twill on my 8 shaft loom. Has anyone out there done this and did you use floating selvedges on the open side of the fabric? How did you manage this? The floating selvedge on the fold wouldn't be an issue, but it seems using 2 floating selvedges on the open side (one for the top and one for the bottom layer) will be tricky. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
Hi
I've been planning on doing a double width twill project for some time, but have avoided that because of the floating selvedge.
I did found this article on a blog on the net. inside it ( middle of the article) there is a surprisingly simple solution to the issue.
So simple that I'm afraid to try it.
So, here it is. Would LOVE to know how did it work:

Hi Alon, Thank you! This article seems to confirm other reading I've been doing. I found instructions to avoid using floating selvedges on twills. The instructions say "Always start the twill weaving sequence by entering the shuttle on the even side of the warp. The even side refers to the side where the outside thread is threaded in a heddle on an even numbered shaft." I tested this on my loom using 4 shafts and it seemed to work. I'm a brand new weaver and I find it easier to understand when I actually test the theory. I'll post my project when it's done. Thanks again!
Hi Kathleen
