Hello!

I was watching Episode 2.4.2 where Jane is scalloping one colour up the selvedge for 4 picks, and I was wondering, what would be the maximum number of picks you would recommend scalloping over? I was working on a design where I had a 4-pick stripe followed by an 8-pick stripe (@ 18epi/ppi with 8/2 cotton) and I wanted to avoid breaking and tucking the ends, but it seemed that 8 picks was probably too much to scallop over. Is there is another way I might carry the thread up in the case where it's too wide to scallop?

I'm also finding that my tails look quite obvious on my 4-pick stripes (making them look quite a bit wider at the one end where the start/finish) and wondered if you have any tips for making them less obvious.

Some where Jane talks about jumping the bump and diving the dip. That is the technique I used to bring a thread up the side for a ways without breaking it. The weft thread is caught with each pic pass. It will show up as a dotted line up the
side and that may be ok or not.

Thanks! I do know about diving the dip and jumping the bump, but I wasn't sure how that would work if I'm not actually weaving with the 2nd thread for a longer stretch. In other words, I thought diving the dip and jumping the bump was only used when weaving with alternating weft threads. But if I want to carry a thread up the side for a while I think I can see how I would catch the unused thread without actually weaving it. Not sure I am explaining myself very well here! :p

What about when you are weaving weft stripes for yardage? Presumably, the weft you carry up the selvedge edge won't be visible once you make up a garment. It's so much easier to just keep weaving, which I have done for about 6" of my cloth, but now I am wondering...is there any other reason not to carry weft up the edges? My stripes are about 1/2" (12 picks) and I've paused. Would there be a problem with puckering when I finish the cloth?
