Can someone please describe the differences between these two looms? I've been searching for a used Jane and have been offered a W-40 that looks similar based on assembly instructions my Google search disclosed. I have a Jane 40 that I love and don't want to settle for something that will be disappointing. The W-40 is not located close enough to me to "test drive." Thanks in advance.
Hi Jamie - I don’t have access to the 2 looms to give you a comparison but I did find this on the web - hope it helps. https://louet.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/360076486434/W40-4.pdf
Hi Jamie,
There were several versions of the W70, you need to make sure this loom has the harness conversion kit on it. When it first came out 30 years ago....it had plastic heddles that slide onto a very wide bar. Later they made a conversion kit for it so it had regular harness bars and texsolv heddles. It is the great grandmother of the present day Jane. You have to slide the harnesses out the bottom of the loom to add heddles. It doesn't have the same weaving action as the Jane....no flippy floppy with the toggles. The beater hangs down in the centre of the shed but you can fix that by putting rubber bands on the beater arms so they say back. Make sure you see a picture of it.....if it is the oldest version the conversion kits are no longer available. Hope this helps, Jane
Wow! Thank you, Jane for this detailed information. I think there are potentially too many generations between the two looms, but I am waiting to see pictures before finally deciding. I really appreciate you taking the time to write.
Jamie
