I'm practically positive figuring out how many heddles I need is some really simple math calculation, but can anyone tell me how to figure that out for any project. I've miscalculated each time I've started a project, involving removing or adding heddles with the loom already dressed, which is no fun.
Thanks.

Hi Sarah, for me - the best way to make sure I have enough heddles is to have at least 200 heddles parked and waiting for me on each shaft. I rarely have to move heddles unless what I’m weaving is a wide project or I’m using fine yarn. You can easily count the number of heddles you need by thinking about your structure and the number of ends in your project. For instance - if you are planning Twill tea towel that is 24” in your reed at 18 epi - you will have 432 ends. For example, one repeat of PW or Twill on 4 shafts requires 1 thread on each shaft - so you divide your 432 ends by 4 - which tells you need 108 heddles on each shaft. Hope this helps.
